Travel Diary: Chiang Mai

For this week’s travel diary, I will be sharing with you a few pictures of an amazing trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. This amazing town reminded me of home when I was very, veeeeery far away. The temperature was ideal and there was greenery and mountains everywhere! My favourite part of the trip was getting to meet and spend an entire day with elephants and BABY ELEPHANTS at the Patara Elephant Farm! We learned how to care for these gentle giants and the important role they play in our world. It was truly an amazing and inspiring experience.

We also got to visit the Tiger Kingdom in Chiang Mai. We did inquire about the care of these tigers in captivity and we were assured by several sources (we researched online as well) that they were not drugged or mistreated. All these tigers are domesticated and therefore used to human interaction and the trainers are very clear when guiding you with instructions on how to engage. After all, they are wild animals so precautions are needed. The Tiger Kingdom was very well kept and clean and we even had the opportunity to see some newborn tigers, although you can’t touch them for health reasons.

Thailand: Photodiary Part 1

During the summer I had the opportunity to visit Asia for the first time! It was a trip of a lifetime. Our first stop was Thailand! My friends and I spent 2 weeks enjoying the sun and the heat after what seemed like the longest winter in England. Our first stop in Thailand was Bangkok, the capital. With over 60 million inhabitants, Bangkok is definitely a busy city. The beauty of it, however, lies in its rich buddhist culture which is ev  er present in every corner.  We stayed at the Galleria 10 Sukhumvit and we could not be happier with the hotel and the staff! We were very happy during our stay and the hotel was beautiful and truly affordable! Although we did not spend enough time in the city, I enjoyed and learned very much! Here are a few of my favorite pictures of our stay!  Stay tuned for more pics of the trip!

Photo Diary: Bacardi Triangle

Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to attend the exclusive Bacardi Triangle in El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Yes, this event took place right in my backyard. It was 3 nights filled with some of the funnest and most amazing moments I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. I can’t go without saying that this past Halloween was probably the best one to date. The whole vibe of the place was awesome, everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves and having an amazing time! Saturday during the day we went to a pool party at the hotel and had a blast, dancing to music and playing in the pool with a giant volleyball. At  night I had the most fun at Palomino, a private island part of El Conquistador, where Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris played. I had never seen them live and they did NOT dissappoint! Since pictures are much better than words, I will leave you with some of this weekend!

This was my first time staying at Las Casitas Village, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, which is right next to El Conquistador, where all the fun and parties where at. Let me just say,  the views were stunning and the staff was amazing! They made our little getaway very special! I can’t wait to come back!

Enjoy the pictures!

Weekend Travel Essentials

plan_ahead_for_a_relaxing_weekend_getaway_to_find_the_best_deals-1

Weekend Travel is one of my favorite things to do. Leave Friday come back Sunday… ahhhhh spend the weekend away from real life. As I have had many, and I mean many Weekend Getaways, I have perfected the art of packing those weekend essentials without over packing and maintaining my style. This last weekend I had the opportunity to go to the Bacardi Triangle at El Conquistador in Fajardo! What an amazing weekend! Here’s what I packed for that little getaway! Stay tuned for pictures of this epic weekend featuring Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar, Calvin Harris, an amazing villa, bikinis, friends and lots of Bacardi!

1. Weekend Bag: First things first, a weekend bag is the most important part of your trip! A nice sturdy bag will allow you to pack your outfits and toiletries and will fit in any overhead bin if you are flying or the back of your car if it’s a road trip. For this particular trip I decided to go with a small carry-on as I was taking my Halloween costume and clothes for the parties.

2. Toiletries: In terms of toiletries you do not need to take our full size items on a weekend trip. Its unnecessary and a pain to carry. Stock up on your favourite items that come in travel size and take them with you! If you are not sure if a particular item comes in a travel size, ask for a sample at the store! Those usually last a couple of days that is just what you need for your trip!

3. Makeup: Unless you are going to an important event, makeup should be kept down to the basics: foundation, powder, concealer, ONE basic eyeshadow palette, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. It sounds like a lot, but to makeup junkies like myself, these are the basics. If I know I’m not going to be going anywhere too fancy or that requires too much makeup, I will bring my BB cream and some powder. I have travel sizes for my primer and mascara so those come with me as well!

4. Outfits: PLAN AHEAD! I used to over pack, A LOT! Now I plan my outfits ahead of time and take only what’s necessary. I usually take a pair of jeans and a skirt and change the blouses and shirts and I try to use the same pair of shoes for all my outfits. If I know I will be going out then I add a pair of heels. Trust me, when you plan ahead you will feel so proud when you see all of your wonderful clothes and shoes fit in the weekend bag, with space to spare!

5.Comfy clothes: Whether you are arriving my plane, train or car, nothing sets the bad mood as uncomfortable clothes do. Remember, you will probably be sitting for a good two hours, and you want comfortable items to move around or at least give your body space to breathe while you are sitting down. Take an outfit to go to your destination, and one to come back. A pair of leggings, a t-shirt and my trusty Chuck Taylors always does the trick!

Now what are you waiting for? Go pack that bag and head out for the best weekend ever! Don’t forget your camera!! Where is your next weekend trip? Do you have any favorite tips when you are going away?

Toronto, Canada: Summer

image18

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit Canada for the very first time. It was one of those impromptu trips that turned out to be a great vacation.  I visited Toronto and immediately fell in love. It is a great city with a great atmosphere and  amazing people.  I am at a point in my life where wherever I go I think if I would like to settle and live there. Toronto got a big, fat, YES!

I had the idea that Canada was this beautiful, COLD country, 365 days of the year. I visited towards the end of August, and let me tell you… It was HOT! I had packed jeans and some light long sleeves and it was just not suitable, so check the temperature before you leave!

During the summer time there are plenty of cool things to do in Toronto. Some of these can even be done all year round! Here are some of my favorite!

1. CN Tower: One of the tallest buildings in the world, the views from up top are like no other! You can see the city of Toronto and Lake Ontario. Do not miss the glass floor that allows you to stand and stare at the people waaaaay down below! Don’t worry, the floor can hold the weight of 14 hippos, so you’ll be fine.

2. Catch a baseball game at the Rogers Centre: Although we are now right in the middle of the World Series (GO GIANTS!) The home of the Toronto Blue Jays is a must visit in Toronto. I had the opportunity to go to a Yankees vs. Blue Jays game and sporting my beloved Yankees cap ( I am a Yankees fan FOR EVA!) , I braved through a sea of blue and got some light hearted abuse along the way. It was a very fun night out and I would totally recommend it!

3. Outdoors Summer Concert: I didn’t realize until the day before, that KiSS 92.5 was presenting their annual Wham Bam concert at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and that Avril Lavigne and Robin Thicke were the main acts!  It is a must do in the summer! Also, be sure to check out the summer festivals in the area!

4. Have a drink: Now this can be done year-round! Two places that we’re perfect for a drink before the baseball game and a fun night out with friends were the Real Sports Bar & Grill next to the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Raptors and the Maple Leafs and Madison Avenue Pub, one of the largest pubs in the world. Real Sports bar is a great place to meet before a game and if you can’t make it inside, then the screens across the bar will put you right in the action. Madison Avenue Pub is set across three Victorian Mansions, and it has good music, great beer and an amazing atmosphere.

5. Eat Poutine: This is an amazing Canadian dish that is perfect after a night out or whenever hunger strikes. It is made of French fries, gravy and cheese curds. One word: Delicioso!

I can’t wait to go back to Canada and experience all it has to offer, and of course…eat some more poutine! What is your favorite part of Toronto?

What’s in my beach bag?

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 9.09.55 AMSummer is here, and as an island girl, my beach bag goes with me everywhere. You never know when that sudden urge to hit the sand and the water may strike. Now that I am back in Puerto Rico, my beach bag is ready to go back into action. Throughout the years, I have become an expert at packing just the right amount of things to keep me comfortable, entertained and protected while catching that tan. Here are my essentials when packing my beach bag.

Beach Bag & Towel: Well this is a no-brainer! A beach bag is the first thing to have when packing.. A beach bag! A nice, big sturdy bag is what you need that will not only help keep the sand out but also can withstand the water and wind. Weather conditions are a little harsher at the beach, therefore, the materials used for the bag should be able to handle it. The designated beach towel should also serve not only to dry oneself but also to lay in the sand. That’s why they also come in bigger and sturdier materials.

Sunscreen: Now, I am a fan of tanning at the beach, but I am very aware of the risks of sun damage, especially to the face. I have a strong sunscreen designated for this area that is oil-free and light in substance to maintain the skin blemish free as well. We all know the no-no that is to apply tanning lotion to the face! I also lightly apply sunscreen on my shoulders and upper back to further protect them from sun burn.

Tanning Lotion: My absolute favorite tanning lotion is Bain de Soleil. It has SPF 4 ( low, but my skin tone is on the tanner side, so I do not need as much coverage as fair skin types) and it provides a beautiful even tan that will last. Misting Spray: Since it gets so hot and humid at the beach, I find it very helpful to bring a misting spray to keep my face and body cool. I do tend to get very dehydrated at the beach and this is a way of giving my body some moisture. My current favorite is Avene Thermal Spring Water.

Sunglasses and Hat: Although I love the beach, too much sun can be a little annoying and can give me a bit of a headache. That is why sunglasses and a hat are essential to me, not only protect my face and my eyes, but also provide shade and prevent a headache. Remember to remove the sunglasses when tanning face front, you do not want that hilarious sunglass tan line!

Magazines, Books, Ipod: I always bring magazines with me to the beach. Whether is to do some research for my next post or to read a bit of gossip (we all love celebrity gossip, don’t lie!). I also bring my Ipod in case I feel like relaxing. A book can also keep you entertained for hours.

Snacks: For snacks at the beach I like to bring fruit, because they do not need refrigeration and they are full of water (especially watermelon) keeping you refreshed and hydrated. I also like to bring water and some adult beverages :).

Miscellaneous: In my bag I always carry lip balm with SPF in it, since my lips tend to get dry pretty quickly. I also carry a comb and detangling spray and some hair ties, to keep my hair (prone to worst of tangling) as manageable as possible. The summer is the perfect time to recharge batteries for what is left of the year, make new friends and have some me time. Enjoy the most of it and have some fun!   Share with us, what’s in your beach bag? signature   Dont forget to follow me at:

La Fortuna, Costa Rica

costa-rica-041

For my birthday I decided to treat myself and went to visit my friends in Costa Rica. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Most of my trip was spent in a little town called La Fortuna set on the foot of an inactive volcano. This volcano had been very active two years prior and you can still see smoke coming out of the top! This town is an amazing oasis where you come in contact with nature in all its glory. That is one thing I loved about Costa Rica: how civilisation has respected the natural surroundings. You can literally breathe fresh air wherever you may go, whether its in the capital of Costa Rica, San José or in the natural hot springs of La Fortuna.

My friends and I stayed at the wonderful Montaña de Fuego Hotel , where we had an amazing experience thanks to Jeffrey Cervantes Calderón, Guest Services Manager (THANK YOU!). Everyone on the staff was welcoming and so nice, from check in to check out! It is definitely a place I recommend and that hopefully soon I will be coming back to visit and enjoy all the fun activities that La Fortuna has to offer.

Among the leasure activities that can be enjoyed around the pool area and hot springs, that include a fun mud bath (your skin will feel soooo soft afterwards) there are plenty of adventurous activities fit for all types of thrill seekers. On the day of my birthday I went ziplining, tubing, rappelling and horse back riding along the mountain (my favorite part).

If you are planning a visit to Costa Rica, then you definitely need to visit La Fortuna and Montaña de Fuego!

Here are some pictures in the gallery below to show you just how amazing La Fortuna is!
